VICTIMS OF IRANIAN STATE TERRORISM

Twenty years after the Islamic Republic of Iran was established, the opponents to the government are still at risk of being imprisoned, tortured and executed. Even those who have fled abroad are not safe. During the past twenty years, dozens of Iranian opponents established abroad have been assassinated by agents of the Iranian government. Today, the whole world is affected by terrorism of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Many of these murders have been committed in European countries. The lack of toughness and the « laisser faire » policy of the European countries, as well as their political and trade dealings with Iran, cannot but increase the atmosphere of insecurity inside these countries. However in view of their geographical position and their political situation, the neighbouring countries, Iraqi Kurdistan in particular, are in a very good position in this respect. The judicial inquiries led in various countries were aimed at establishing the role and responsibility of the representatives and services of the Iranian government in the planning of extrajudicial executions on political grounds. The main investigation was held in Germany. The verdict brought in by the Berlin court on 10 April 1997 (in the trial of the assassins of our Party's secretary-general, Dr. Sadegh Sharafkandi and of three of his collaborators, all shot on 17 September 1992 in the « Mykonos » restaurant in Berlin) confirmed for the very first time the responsibility of the Iranian State's highest authorities in the assassination of their opponents. (see the verdict and the exerpts of the reasons adduced for the judgement of the Berlin court on our site under the heading « Documents ». The recent assassinations of political personalities and of writers in Iran clearly show that the election of the new president of the Islamic Republic, Mohammad Khatami, changed nothing in the regime's policy with regard to its opponents. Below you will find a partial list of 264 persons who were victims of assaults by Iran's State terrorism.
